CWAA: Can We All Agree™ – 12/9/17 edition

December 9, 2017

Can we all agree, Sen. Al Franken has discovered that the court of public opinion does not believe in innocent until proven guilty?

Can we all agree, the incredible actions of Rep. Trent Franks and Judge Alex Kozinski, give new meaning to the phrase ‘you can’t make this up.’

Can we all agree, this still does not make it easier to understand how a child molester might win a senate seat in Alabama and a sexual predator was elected President?

Can we all agree, it’s one thing to support a child molester running for the senate, but quite another to actively campaign for him?

Fire burn outside Los Angeles.

Fires burn outside Los Angeles.

Can we all agree, Mr. Trump does not worry about Palestinian protests as long as he can keep his campaign contributors happy?

Can we all agree, Dina Powell’s departure from he White House post may not be controversial, but it certainly seems odd that it came just a day after her major policy initiative was announced?

Can we all agree, Mr. Trump’s visit tonight to the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum is an insult to every black American?

Can we all agree, the impressive jobs numbers have nothing to do with anything The President has done in the last year?

Can we all agree, just weeks after declining to provide more fire aid to Northern California, Mr. Trump seems content to sit and watch as Southern California burnsClick here for a look at the LA Fire from the air.

Can we all agree, the administration seems indifferent to new projections of the actual number of deaths in Puerto Rico?

Can we all agree, if Mr. Trump had not monopolized every news cycle, Americans might know the Brexit negotiations took a major step this week or that a German political crises has been averted or that 15 UN peacekeepers were killed in the Congo?

Can we all agree, Maine Senator Susan Collins, gave away her vote on the GOP tax bill and probably will get nothing in return?

Can we all agree, it seems rather pointless to approve a two week extension of government spending when we will just repeat the same exercise in brinksmanship, just before Christmas?

Can we all agree, the Aussies deserve credit for approving same-sex marriage the way it should be done, by an act of the legislature?

Can we all agree, The House-Senate conference committee is making a bad tax bill worse by acceding to the demands of Mr. Trump?

Can we all agree, comparing intra-state drivers licenses to intra-state gun permits is the ultimate apples to oranges challenge?

Can we all agree, downsizing two Utah monuments sacrifices the benefits of many Americans to the needs of a few, for no good reason?

Can we all agree, any rational resident of the planet would pay attention to the latest climate change warning: unfortunate that excludes EPA director Scott Pruitt?

Can we all agree, the Republicans can attack Special Counsel Robert Mueller all they want, the voters understand politics?

Can we all agree, Time Magazine’s Person of the Year is pretty much a direct slap in the face to President Trump?

Can we all agree, John Oliver’s interview with Dustin Hoffman is a milestone?

Can we all agree, there’s at least one conspiracy theory progressive Democrats can get behind?

Can we all agree, despite Mr. Trump’s lies, his real estate business stands to win big under the new tax plan?

Can we all agree, the Russians deserved to be barred from the Winter Olympics period, with no special exceptions?

Can we all agree, the President’s lawyers are trying to tell us that he is above the law – but no one needs a legal expert to tell them that’s laughable?

Can we all agree, former campaign manager Paul Manafort deserves to have his bail revoked just for being stupid?

Can we all agree, the Supreme Court’s  approval of the administration’s travel ban may be temporary?

Can we all agree, the constant drip of story, after story after story about links between the Trump administration and the Russians ,will eventually bury the White House?

Can we all agree, it seems pretty obvious that with the appointment of his top aide to his former job, Chief of Staff John Kelley will continue to run the Department of Homeland Security?

and finally, two good reads:

One from WWII in honor of Pearl Harbor Day, and the other, a story unique to our times when a fake restaurant can become a destination.

CWAA: Can We All Agree™ – 12/2/17 edition

December 2, 2017

Can we all agree, after a year of trying to stop the investigation into Russian influence in our election, we now know why the President was so worried?

Can we all agree, Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation has now reached the White House’s inner circle?

Some Sounds of Silence for your enjoyment

Can we all agree, if the President’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, is indicted, can there be any doubt that The President knew what was going on?

Can we all agree, Michael Flynn’s guilty plea to a single charge, suggests he has a lot to offer Mr. Mueller?

Can we all agree, the Senate tax bill that passed last night, may be a hollow victory and the public really does not care?

Can we all agree, there will be winners and losers, but the long term implications are unknown, even to the GOP?

Can we all agree, passing major legislation which includes handwritten notes in the margin is no way to run a government? We’ve been arguing over commas in the Constitution for over 200 years.

Can we all agree, the public will be more concerned when the government shuts down, as the President apparently wants?

Can we all agree, Kate Steinle’s family may be paying the price for Donald Trump’s decision to make her death at the hands of an illegal immigrant, a campaign issue?

Can we all agree, it’s a bit incredulous that the Charlottesville police did not expect any violence at a white supremicist rally in their city?

Can we all agree, it’s pretty clear blue states, like California, are not going to get much help from the White House when disasters strike?

Can we all agree, taxpayers should not be footing the bill for sexual harassment settlements by members of Congress?

Can we all agree, if the GOP thinks tax cuts for the wealthy, combined with cuts to entitlement programs such are Medicare and Social Security, will win them an election, they are delusional?

Can we all agree, if Sen. Al Franken is forced to resign  the President should too?

Can we all agree, we all wish we had four houses to put up for bail so that we would not have to be confined while awaiting trial?

Can we all agree, with their missile launch this week, North Korea has called Mr. Trump’s bluff?

Can we all agree, any woman can tell you the list of sexual harassers will get longer before the activity ends? Matt Lauer and Russell Simmonds are this weeks’ high profile additions. The jury is still out on Garrison Keillor.

Can we all agree, Mr. Trump does not even understand why the world is troubled when he retweets a false and misleading video from a fringe anti-Muslim group. If I were in England I wouldn’t want him to visit either.

Can we all agree, the answer to the opioid crises is not more DEA agents?

Can we all agree, the White House can deny it all they want but Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is effectively a dead man walking?

Can we all agree, between his lies and altered reality the President has a very tenuous grasp of the job he is supposed to be doing?

Can we all agree, no one is surprised a Trump appointee ruled in the President’s favor giving him control over the consumer finance board?

Can we all agree, the Russian teams should be banned from the Winter Olympics in February?

Can we all agree, Project Veritas has no place in US politics, even if the Koch brothers are backers?

Can we all agree, The President is so obsessed with Elizabeth Warren, he doesn’t mind insulting military veterans?

Can we all agree, we need the British Royal Family and a wedding, to take our minds off our own government?

Can we all agree, Ivanka Trump seems clueless about the incongruous image of her promoting women’s rights while in India where her goods are made in sweat shops?

and finally:

RIP Jim Nabors

November 18, 2017

Can we all agree, most Americans will figure  out about a year from now, that tax reform was not a middle class tax break, when they start to consider year-end moves to lessen their tax burden, and find out there’s nothing they can do?

Endangered species, at home and abroad?

Endangered species, at home and abroad?

Can we all agree, it’s starting to look like the House vote may be another exercise in futility?

Can we all agree, until The President changed course, there was something poetically correct about allowing big-game hunters to import the head of an animal which symbolizes the Republican party?

Can we all agree the House and Senate, long known as a misogynistic boys club,  might change now?

Can we all agree, Franken deserves the scorn he’s attracting, but at least he issued a quick apology? I don’t hear any other expressions of regret – quite the opposite in fact in Ohio.

Can we all agree, the administration has more sympathy for wild animals than it does for immigrants?

Can we all agree the issue probably had something to do with the nation’s two most prominent hunters – the Presidents’s sons?

Can we all agree, the drip, drip, drip of news about Russian meetings, and lies on government disclosure forms, is leading most Americans to conclude that there was some coordination between the Trump campaign and the Russian government?

Can we all agree, joking about the situation doesn’t help the administration’s effort?

Can we all agree, we are supposed to believe the Russians interfered in the Brexit vote and the Spanish election, but ignored our election campaign?

Can we all agree, Brett Joseph, a 36-year-old who has never practiced as lawyer, should stick to his day job as an author, and decline his nomination to the Federal Court

Can we all agree, the 210,000 barrell leak from the Keystone Pipeline, should end the Nebraska debate about whether the line should be extended? It should also end drilling in the Arctic wilderness, but it won’t.

Can we all agree, the more appointments Mr. Trump makes the more resignations and conflicts of interest appear?

Can we all agree, the IRS’s enforcement of the Affordable Care Act Mandate is either designed to put pressure on Congress to repeal the measure, or a sign that the administration has no clue what’s going on? I vote for the latter.

Can we all agree, Democrats are breathing a sigh of relief at the mistrial of Sen. Robert Menendez?

Can we all agree, the real heroes of this week’s mass shooting in Northern California, are the teachers and administrators who ‘locked down’ their school, to prevent the shooter from entering?

Can we all agree, it’s rather transparent that the President  comments on tragedies in red states, and ignores similar incidents in blue states?

Can we all agree, Europeans should be alarmed at the radioactive Russian cloud covering parts of the continent?

Can we all agree, there is something wrong when a business can provide millions to build a museum, but doesn’t want to cover some health care for its employees.

Can we all agree, if you need to hold a press conference to tell the world  how successful you have been, you probably weren’t?

Can we all agree, Mr. Trump’s biggest achievement in China was probably helping to get three shoplifters released from prison, to please UCLA basketball fans?

Can we all agree, we will all pay for the changes at the consumer finance bureau?

Can we all agree, the coup in Zimbabwe had more to do with the president’s wife than Mr. Mugabe?

Can we all agree, CEO’s and millionaires across the country  have called the President’s bluff on his tax reform plan?

Can we all agree, it’s hard to believe the administration has not even expressed sympathy for the 500 people who died in this week’s earthquake in Iran?

Can we all agree, you have to wonder about politicians who decline to provide benefits to their constituents, just to score political points?

Can we all agree, Attorney General Jeff Sessions wants us to believe there could not have been any coordination with Russia, because he thinks the Trump campaign was too disorganized and stupid?

Can we all agree, the continuing pressure to appoint a special; counsel to investigate Hillary Clinton,  shows  Mr. Trump’s lack of understanding about how government works?

Can we all agree, it’s not very reassuring that even GOP lawmakers are worried about Mr. Trump’s control of the nuclear launch codes?
