CWAA: Can We All Agree™ – 12/30/17 edition

December 30, 2017

Can we all agree, it must  be frustrating, trying to send a consistent message when Mr. Trump is accessible to anyone dining at his resort or the boss invites a reporter over for an impromptu interview? They would probably rather he stick to golf.

Can we all agree the White House seems to know 2018 will be a disaster for Trump and the GOP?

Can we all agree, it won’t be long before Mr. Trump tries to take credit for the drop in the New York City crime rate or the decrease in Chicago homicides in 2017?

Can we all agree, no one, Republican or Democrat, wanted to see Roy Moore’s court challenge to  Alabama election results, succeed?

Can we all agree, Apple owes the owners of older iPhones, more than an apology, for slowing down their devices – even it was to protect the battery?

Can we all agree, maybe the post office should charge more to Amazon for package delivery, but it’s not like Amazon has to stick with the Postal Service?

Can we all agree, Dr. Phil has betrayed the trust of his viewers by promoting drug rehab centers just because they advertise on his show?

Can we all agree, despite what police say, ‘swatting’ may have been the cause of a tragic Kansas shooting, but the police pulled the trigger?

Can we all agree, there is no doubt the Administration has guaranteed another oil well disaster by rejecting rules enacted after the Deepwater Horizon explosion?

Can we all agree, any other president would be in serious trouble if a state was without power 3 months after a hurricane?

Can we all agree, it doesn’t seem to bother anyone in California, that Mr. Trump is the first President in 50 years, not to visit us during his first calendar year in office. Even local GOP leaders do not want him to visit.

Can we all agree, even for Donald Trump, dismissing an advisory panel via a form letter, is just disrespectful?

Can we all agree, it’s sad that we have become so acclimated to Mr. Trump’s insults that we ignore his less-than-subtle digs at climate change while enraging  one-third of the country suffering with below normal temperatures?

Can we all agree, Facebook will continue to have problems until they develop a cohesive policy for dealing with unwanted users?

Can we all agree, the courts have, once again, been forced to step in to enforce legitimate public policy decisions made by previous administrations?

Can we all agree, with each new hack, reality gets more like the movies?

Can we all agree, attacking the credibility of former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn could be problematic since Mr. Trump has spent the last  year praising him?

Can we all agree, The Internal Revenue Service has given the GOP another headache with their ruling on pre-paying 2018 state taxes before the end of 2017?

Can we all agree, it looks like the winner in the Virginia state election will be determined by the courts – which is only marginally better than drawing names from a hat?

Can we all agree, the expansion of Homeland Security’s role in fighting terrorism abroad will have some ominous and unintended implications?

Can we all agree, Sen. Orrin Hatch never read the scathing editorial accompanying his award at Utahn of the Year – and now he looks foolish? Maybe Mitt Romney should run for his seat.

Can we all agree, it’s no surprise the Department of Justice has been lax in its handling of sexual harassment complaints?

Can we all agree, the Russians will continue to test the West, until there is unified opposition – an unlikely prospect with Mr. Trump in the White House?

Can we all agree, it’s surprising Mr. Putin even cares about disrupting the opposition candidates, since he is almost guaranteed of winning next year’s election?

Can we all agree, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin deserved every pound of manure delivered to his front door?

Can we all agree, Democrats should be encouraged by the number of candidates filing to run for office at every level? At least some in the GOP seem to realize they have a problem.

Can we all agree, the rest of the world has moved on from Donald Trump by simply ignoring him? I just wish we could do the same.

Can we all agree, it was only a matter of time before the Bitcoin craze became a partisan issue?

Can we all agree, President Obama’s interview with Prince Harry, once again, makes many of us nostalgic for days gone by?

and finally:

Take a few minutes to watch some of the best moments from the last 12 months of Saturday Night Live.

Since California is often the leader in passing laws that other states follow, take a look at some of the new regulations going into effect in the Golden State on Monday – yes, it’s more than just legalized marijuana.

CWAA: Can We All Agree™ – 8/12/17 edition

August 12, 2017

Can we all agree, many of us never thought the Chinese president would be the grownup in the room, refereeing the war of words between a US President and the leader of North Korea?

We all make mistakes, but Can we all agree we'd like to think this was on purpose.

Can we all agree, while we should be concerned about what’s happening in Venezuela,  we can’t invade every country, where we disagree with the government’s policies?

Can we all agree, the White House may not openly condone the activities of the alt-right, but the fact that an administration aide can pen a memo describing a leftist conspiracy, certainly provides support?

Can we all agree, Google made a bad situation worse this week, when they fired the author of a memo attacking women working in Silicon Valley? We may not agree with his comments, but he has every right to his opinion.

Can we all agree, it’s hard to tell if sports reporters are over-reacting to the cancellation of some  high school football programs, or if we are really seeing the start of a death spiral?

Can we all agree, despite all the rhetoric, it appears, the XL pipeline may be stymied by state regulations in Nebraska?

Can we all agree, state politicians, like those in Wisconsin, don’t care how much tax money they give away, as long as they can say they brought in new jobs?

Can we all agree, President Trump should take a close look at what’s happening to his good friend Benjamin Netanyahu, as he tries to downplay the special counsel’s investigation?

Can we all agree, Disney may be making the right business decision, by taking their movies off Netflix, but they are making it  more difficult for the consumer?

Can we all agree, we should be very concerned that industry lobbyists are re-writing the nation’s regulatory framework?

Can we all agree, it’s been another tough trip home for many GOP politicians?

Can we all agree, coal mining should not be encouraged on public land?

Can we all agree, it appears the only world leader Mr. Trump does not stand up to, is Vladimir Putin?

Glen Campbell

Glen Campbell

Can we all agree, White House aides should not be making news at speaking engagements? If they can’t take the criticism, they should not have agreed to appear.

Can we all agree, the world is just a little less  lyrical this week with the passing of Glen Campbell and Broadway singer Barbara Cook.

and finally:

Only in America could Back to School shopping get combined with guns sales.

Can we all agree, the President-elect’s response – gleeful celebration – is colored by his past attempts to open a casino in Cuba, rather than any understanding of the historical significance of the event?

Can we all agree the reaction to the start of the election recount process would have been much different if Hillary Clinton had won ?

Can we all agree it’s probably not realistic to think the results will be altered? But that hasn’t prevented Jill Stein from raising millions to move ahead in three states.

Can we all agree, the recount will do little to dampen the criticism of the Electoral College as Hillary Clinton’s lead in the overall vote continues to mount?

Can we all agree the proliferation of fake news for profit, may be the  life preserver traditional edited news content needed to prevent its demise?

Can we all agree the outlandish sums the government will be paying for security of the Trump family, is just one way the new President will profit from his own election?

Can we all agree Melania’s decision to remain in New York, at least until the end of the school year, so her son , who some believe has shown signs of autism, can finish the school year, may become  permanent?

Can we all agree the meetings this week between broadcast journalists and later the NY Times, illustrate why Mr. Trump was able to win election by controlling the message through TV coverage? We may be seeing the first Youtube presidency.

Can we all agree Mr. Trump’s supporters don’t seem to care that he is continuing to turn away from his own campaign rhetoric? In fact, they expected it.

Can we all agree, Donald Trump’s business interests, make the Clinton Foundation issues look insignificant? His interests are so widespread they will color almost every decision he makes.

Can we all agree, nothing was more chilling this week than the continuing celebrations in the racist alt-right community?

Can we all agree Mr. Trump’s business interests, and his continued focus on them, could be the undoing of his presidency?

Can we all agree Mr. Trump’s economic appointments, prove once again that he has duped the great majority of the blue-collar supports who put him in office?

Can we all agree the choice of Betsy Devos as education secretary will continue to make it more difficult for traditional public school districts to educate our children?

Can we all agree the new UN ambassador may have a tough job trying to explain Mr. Trump’s actions to the rest of the world?

Can we all agree Mr. Trump’s decision to forgo security briefings as he focuses on his cabinet choices, illustrates the attitude of most American’s toward the rest of the world?

Can we all agree the election of Donald Trump and the Brexit vote may have actually strengthened the European Union?

Can we all agree, the news that the FBI now has access to everything posted on Twitter, is very disconcerting?

Can we all agree it was reassuring to see a new peace agreement signed in Colombia, even after voters rejected the first deal?

Can we all agree the widespread fires in Israel will be used by all parties to the Mideast unrest, to further their own causes?

Can we all agree, if you were wondering why the battle over court appointments has become so significant, you need look no further than this week’s decisions on new overtime rules or Wisconsin gerrymandering, for an answer?

Can we all agree most American Catholics seem to be OK with Pope Francis’ latest pronouncement on abortion?

Can we all agree, speaking of going unnoticed, no-one seems to  care about the ever-changing Olympic medal count, caused by the latest round of doping results?

Can we all agree it will be interesting to see how Mr. Trump counters the inevitable criticism he gets from Mr. Obama once their roles have changed?

Can we all agree the strangest story of the week may be the Exxon-Mobil decision to sue the offspring of its founding father?

President Obama and his final pardon.

President Obama and his final pardon.

Can we all agree, Mr. Obama is in a race against the clock to make sure many non-violent drug offenders  get their lives back?

Can we all agree he’s facing the same time constraints as he works to honor the many notable Americans who have supported his presidency?

And finally:

You have to wonder if the turkey pardoned by Mr. Obama really wanted to live in a Trumpian world marked by one drama after another?

and

The good news story of the week of the repo man who saved an elderly couple from losing their car.

RIP, everyone’s TV mom, Florence Henderson.
