#CWAA: Can We All Agree™ – 4/14/18 edition

April 14, 2018

Can we all agree, Mr. Trump will have a tough time convincing Americans that his missile attack on Syria was anything more than an attempt to distract attention from his troubles at home?

Can we all agree, the investigation of New York attorney Michael Cohen, could ensnare more people than the Russian investigation? Even  Mr. Trump seems to agree.

Missiles in Syria

Missiles in Syria

Can we all agree, the war of words between former FBI director James Comey and Mr. Trump, favors Comey, if only because he knows more words?

Can we all agree, anyone who has raised children, knows Paul Ryan is lying when he says he’s leaving Congress to spend more time with his teenage children?

Can we all agree, Special Counsel Robert Mueller is probably happy to have the focus off his probe of the White House and on New York prosecutors – even for just a day or two?

Can we all agree, the decision to reconsider the Trans Pacific Partnership trade agreement, leaves no doubt Mr. Trump’s  ‘policy decisions’ are based solely on his ever changing mood?

Can we all agree, the same could be said for his pardoning of Scooter Libby and his investigation into Postal Service contracts?

Can we all agree, whoever thought giving teachers small baseball bats, even as a symbol of defiance, really has no understanding of the mood in our schools after the Parkland tragedy?

Can we all agree, it’s comforting to see The Pope admit that he made a mistake in the Chilean sex abuse scandal?

Can we all agree, it won’t be long before climate science deniers find a way to put a positive spin on reduced ocean circulation?

Can we all agree, after years of railing against budget deficits, it’s pretty clear the GOP legacy will be trillion dollar deficits for years to come?

Can we all agree, no one is optimistic about the administration’s ability to negotiate with North Korea?

Can we all agree, as long as the White House zigzags from one policy crises to the next, there will be no coherent GOP message for their candidates in 2018 and Democrats will benefit?

Can we all agree, it’s ironic that this administration might be toppled by a former porn star and not Special Counsel Robert Mueller?

January 6, 2018

Can we all agree, anyone who needs to tell the world they are “a very stable genius” is not?

Can we all agree, Democrats think they will finally have a smoking gun to impeach Mr. Trump, if they just adopt the Watergate era mantra and ‘follow the money?’

Can we all agree, $18 billion for a wall no one wants will be tough pill for  Congress to swallow while trying to avoid a government shutdown and allowing “Dreamers” to stay in the country?

The Northeast digs out. (Boston Globe photo)

The Northeast digs out. (Boston Globe photo)

Can we all agree, The GOP is trying to distract the public’s attention from the Mueller investigation by reviving an investigation of the Clinton Foundation and seeking an indictment against the folks who collected the Russian dossier on the President? I doubt it will work.

Can we all agree, residents in the Northeast are more concerned about the snow and cold, than anything going on in Washington?

Can we all agree, Michael Wolf’f’s book “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House,” is just the first of many ‘tell-all’ books about the current administration– given the way they have burned through staffers in their first year?

Can we all agree, Mr. Wolff was quite magnanimous in thanking Mr. Trump for the extra press, but we wonder if his ‘box of chocolates’ comment was a reference to Forrest Gump?

Can we all agree, Mr. Bannon might make up with Mr. Trump, but he may have permanently  lost the support of his right-wing base?

Can we all agree, Attorney General Jeff Sessions badly underestimated the support the marijuana industry has in many states?

Can we all agree, Intel may face a raft of lawsuits because of the flaw in their computer chips, but most Americans have no idea what they need to do?

Can we all agree,  replacing the  artificial coloring in Dunkin Donuts will not make them healthy?

Can we all agree, Mr. Trump thinks that weilding US assistance as a lever to force countries to do what we want is the only way to conduct foreign policy?

Can we all agree, North Korea has won the latest round of verbal sparring by separating the US from South Korea?

Can we all agree, trying to figure out what’s going on in Iran is just impossible?

Can we all agree, the cynical actions taken by the administration and the EPA, while most Americans were celebrating the holidays, are the hallmark of an administration which has no moral compass?

Can we all agree, Orin Hatch’s departure from the Senate might add another Trump critic to the Senate, but it’s doubtful it will change the vote totals? But Doug Jones’ election will force changes.

Can we all agree, Judge Roy Moore’s supporters have taken politics to a new low by setting fire to the home of a woman who accused him of impropriety?

Can we all agree, the more Mr. Trump tweets the more trouble he creates for himself?

Can we all agree, this administration  cannot even organize our annual census without creating controversy?

Can we all agree, the voter fraud panel should never have been created and referring their responsibilities to Homeland Security is absurd?

Can we all agree, appointing the wife of a powerful Congressman to a government job is a bribe? The same could be said by foreign government’s treatment of Trump’s projects around the world.

Can we all agree, talk of controversy with the New England Patriots football organization, may cheer the haters around the country, but it won’t prevent the team from another trip to the Superbowl

and finally:

If you really want an explanation of what might happen in the Mueller investigation, listen to this segment 0f Fresh Air on NPR.

and:

If you’re heading to NYC in the Spring to visit the Metropolitan Museum, be aware that it might cost you $25 per person unless you can prove you live in New York.

CWAA: Can We All Agree™ – 8/19/17 edition

August 19, 2017

Can we all agree, Steve Bannon had to leave the administration or there would probably have been a mass exodus of other officials who blame him for Mr. Trump’s racist stance earlier in the week?

Can we all agree, we will hear even more from Bannon now that he has a website to pressure the President?

Can we all agree, it’s unbelievable that the President of the United States was quicker to comment on a terrorist attack in Spain that he was to comment on an attack in Charlotesville?

Can we all agree, there is a big difference between the statues honoring Confederate heroes and the Boston street sign designating Yawkey Way in honor of former Red Sox owner Tom Yawkey? As a Boston native, I know Mr. Yawkey was racist, but since his death his foundation has made charitable contributions all over the city.

President Obama’s message after Charlottesville. Setting new Twitter records.

Can we all agree, the only reason right-wing racists plan protests in blue cities such as Boston or Berkeley is because they know they will get publicity from the local reaction?

Can we all agree, Tina Fey might be getting criticism for her reaction to Mr. Trump, but it was still pretty funny?

Can we all agree, the national magazine covers were less humorous. but captured the nation’s mood perfectly? But it may be the financial impact that gets the President’s attention?

Can we all agree, Mr. Trump should not expect a visit from the NBA champion Golden State Warriors?

Can we all agree, Wells Fargo Bank is proof positive that we need a Consumer Finance Protection Bureau?

Can we all agree, Steve Bannon may have contradicted the message the administration wants to send, but he was right when he admitted there is no military solution to the North Korea crises? At least Kim Jung Un seems to agree, for now.

Can we all agree, the next major world hotspot may be the China-India border?

Can we all agree, there was no good reason for the administration to end protections for minors from South America?

Can we all agree, it’s easy to blame Mr. Bannon for the President’s racist views, but they have been pretty obvious for many years?

Can we all agree, it seems clear that Mr. Trump has no problem being the President of the people who elected him and alienating everyone else?

Can we all agree, we should all be appalled that children in India were allowed to die because of a hospital billing dispute with an oxygen supplier?

Can we all agree, an American tourist who offered a Nazi salute in downtown Dresden, Germany, deserved to get beat up?

Can we all agree, while everyone was pre-occupied with Charlottesville, special counsel Robert Mueller began the next phase of investigation by requesting interviews with current and former White House staffers?

Can we all agree right-wing leader Chris Cantwell has no idea what he’s doing or the damage he is inflicting on the world?

And finally:

The good news story of the week about a WWII marine returning a Japanese flag to the family of a fallen soldier.
