Can we all agree that, effectively, the primary season ended this week when Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton posted lopsided wins?

Can we all agree the GOP has a tough demographic battle ahead, unless they change some of their basic party policies?

Can we all agree Trump cannot win a gender battle against Hillary?

Can we all agree that combining California’s liberal reputation with Donald Trump will make the month before the California primary a real circus?

Can we all agree that former Speaker John Boehner looked and sounded absolutely thrilled with an opportunity to blast Ted Cruz?

Can we all agree Ted Cruz’s stunt, naming Carley Fiorina as his VP choice, backfired badly because it makes no sense, just like his announced deal with John Kasich to split up the remaining primary states?

Can we all agree Trump’s foreign policy speech this week did not change many minds, supporters thought it was great and opponents say he still has no idea how the world really works?

Can we all agree the bombing of a Doctor’s Without Borders hospital in Afghanistan needs an independent investigation rather than a Pentagon report?

Can we all agree the occupation of Iraq’s parliament proves what most Americans now believe: maybe they needed to have a dictator in charge?

Can we all agree the voter I.D. requirements making their way through the courts do nothing but suppress voting when we should be encouraging everyone to get to the polls?

Can we all agree the GOP message has gotten lost in a torrent of bad headlines from the Koch’s supporting Hillary, to California fundraisers having trouble raising money?

Can we all agree that, if experts are correct,  we may be seeing a major change in teen attitudes toward sex?

Can we all agree when your attorney calls you a ‘little jerk,‘ you have some serious issues to overcome, even if you are a terrorist?

Can we all agree it’s pretty amazing that Dennis Hastert’s past, as a child molester,  did not catch up with him sooner?

Can we all agree that while most of the stock market seem panicked by Apple’s recent sales report, it might be wise to wait a bit before selling all your stock?

Can we all agree, speaking of Apple., the FBI iPhone hack may not be a real bargain, if it won’t work with the next generation iPhone, due out in the Fall?

Can we all agree that sending more combat troops to Syria reminds too many baby boomers of our slow descent into the Viet Nam War?

Can we all agree that the economy might not be in the best shape but it’s still pretty far from the disaster some politicians claim?

And finally:

Can we all agree the court decision reinstating Tom Brady’s 4-game suspension had little to do with the original allegations, but was simply a verdict concerning labor law?

CWAA: Can We All Agree – 3/12/16 edition

March 12, 2016

Can we all agree that the world owed George Martin more than it could have ever repaid for his work in bringing the Beatles music to us all?

Can we all agree that Donald Trump’s non-repudiation repudiation of the violence at his campaign events will just encourage more violence?

Can we all agree that President’s list of finalists for the Supreme Court is pretty much as expected?

Can we all agree the GOP debate this week was a lot more civil, but facts were few and far between?

Can we all agree that, all things considered, we would have much rather watched the state dinner and fashion show for Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau?

Can we all agree we have not heard the last of the Yosemite trademark case?

Can we all agree that the latest astronomical discovery is yuuuge?

Can we all agree that given their vote totals, neither Ms Fiorina’s nor Mr.Carson’s endorsement will change the GOP primary race that much?

Can we all agree that Hillary Clinton may win the Democratic nomination, but other than the second debate she has not inspired confidence, she can beat a Republican opponent?

Can we all agree that Bernie Sander’s win in Michigan may be the kick in the pantsuit that she needs to end the complacency among her staff and her supporters?

Can we all agree she seems to have convinced Michael Bloomberg that she can win?

Can we all agree that while some Latinos may be registering to vote, just to oppose Donald Trump, we’re not sure it’s the movement some newspapers are writing about?

Can we all agree that when the two top officials of a non-profit fundraising group  are fired after a blistering audit report, it makes you think twice about  donations to any group?

Can we all agree that when the dean of one of the nation’s leading law schools is forced to resign for sexually harassing his executive assistant we are a long way from equality in the workplace?

Can we all agree that Fukushima will stand forever alongside Three Mile Island and Chernobyl as a warning that we may never be able to create safe nuclear power plants?

Can we all agree that just when we thought the Europeans were making progress in their handling of refugees, more countries closing their borders did not help?

Can we all agree that while she may have been the power behind the throne, Nancy Reagan has made sure that her legacy is one of true love?

Can we all @gree that, love it or hate it, Ray Tomlinson’s contribution to our lives will not be forgotten?

Can we all agree that Erin Andrews’ court victory this week is hardly something to celebrate?

Can we all agree that despite assurances from Brazil, we’re all a bit nervous about the summer olympics in Rio later this year?

Can we all agree that San Jose hotels are understandably upset that the Super Bowl was not the bonanza they expected? Expect no such complaints from San Francisco.

Can we all agree that no-one is really surprised that another Russian athlete was caught cheating? Even if she’s an attractive, blond tennis player.

and finally:

Can we all agree that Google’s latest hire really makes you question their ‘do no harm’ mantra?

Happy New Year. Thanks for reading.

Some tips for the coming election year

Can we all agree that hearing about the deaths of Wayne Rogers and Natalie Cole was not a great way to start a new year?

Can we all agree that the worst New Year’s Eve broadcast had to be Fox News, which insisted on allowing the presidential candidates an opportunity to offer gratuitous and meaningless comments throughout their show?

Can we all agree Mr. Obama is at least following through on his promise to do something about improving gun control in the country. Surveys suggest most of the country supports some kind of action, but the GOP and NRA are already up in arms. Whatever he does it won’t help the 27 Americans killed by guns over Christmas.

Can we all agree that the Iranian response to the administration’s decision to consider more sanctions, over the Iranians use of long rang missiles, would be pretty funny, if the topic were not so serious?

Can we all agree that retired surgeon Ben Carson’s presidential campaign continues to be in deep trouble?

Can we all agree that Jeb Bush is also in trouble? Now, he’s c challenging the schoolyard bully (Mr. Trump)  to a one-on-one fight.

Can we all agree that Carly Fiorina brought politics to a new low when the Stanford grad decided she should root for Iowa in the Rose Bowl?

Can we all agree that the list of folks insulted by Mr. Trump is a little like the old Nixon’s enemies list – if you’re not on it, you feel a little let down?

Can we all agree that it appears the mainstream GOP Presidential candidates are hoping Trump will self-destruct, and are now focusing on bashing each other in an attempt to stand out?

Can we all agree that no-one even remembered that George Pataki was running for the GOP nomination, until he dropped out?

Can we all agree that this week’s freak weather condition will just become more common if we don’t do something about global warming?

Can we all agree that the charges against Bill Cosby may not convince a jury but he’s already been found guilty in the court of public opinion?

Can we all agree that what the world really needed was a book of quotes from Russian President Vladimir Putin?

Can we all agree it seems a bit strange that a clip of Donald Trump appeared in an extremist recruitment video – after it was mentioned by Hillary Clinton?

Can we all agree that when the Republicans purposely manipulate the color of the President’s skin in campaign ads, they are playing to the racism they know continues to exist in this country?

Can we all agree that very few people were surprised that no indictments were handed down in the shooting to Tamir Rice?

Can we all agree that  every new story written about teenager Ethan Crouch and his mother makes everyone believe he never deserved the lenient sentence he received after killing four people in a car accident?

Trying to coax an elephant seal back into the water.

Trying to coax an elephant seal back into the water.

Can we all all agree that all the dire warnings about the potential spread of the Ebola virus seem like a distant memory now that Guinea has been declared ebola free?

Can we all agree that while it’s good news the Iraqi’s have retaken Ramadi, they are a long way from taking back control of their country?

Can we all agree the methane gas leak at Porter Ranch just outside Los Angeles may be the most under-publicized environmental disaster of 2015?

Can we all agree that the best story of the week may be the tale of the wayward, pregnant elephant seal who tied up traffic in Sonoma for hours as officials tried to coax her back into the water? Please, no jokes about why the seal crossed the road.

Can We All Agree – Debate Edition

September 19, 2015

The GOP lineup

The GOP lineup– with Jeb Bush on his toes

Can we all agree that three hours was just too long for a debate – whether you’re wearing wing tips or high heels?

Can we all agree that CNN strategy to encourage ‘debate’ between the candidates was a disaster?

Can we all agree that it pains many Americans (including me)  to admit that Fox did a better job as a debate host?

Can we all agree that it’s tough to take any of the GOP candidates seriously until they really focus on addressing major issues such as immigration, climate change, income inequality or a host of others?

Can we all agree that if there was a ‘winner’ it was probably Carley Fiorina?

Can we all agree that the other 10 candidates were determined not to let Mr. Trump control the debate? They failed, but at least they were ready.

Can we all agree that Ms Fiorina will now face new scrutiny over her tenure at Hewlett Packard?

Can we all agree that this debate may signal the high point for the Trump campaign as he begins a long slow decline in the polls?

Can we all agree that at least three of the folks in the two debates will be gone before the October 28th debate in Colorado? Or is that just wishful thinking?

Can we all agree that with five more debates planned, the GOP is in serious danger of creating election fatigue?

Can we all agree, that real facts were is short supply? The fact checkers have had a field day with almost every candidate?

Can we all agree that Jimmy Fallon’s interview with Hillary would have been much better if it wasn’t quite so self serving?

Can we all agree that for Twitter fans, the highlight of the evening might have been Bernie Sanders snarky debate commentary?

Can We All Agree – 9/5/15 Edition

September 5, 2015

Can we all agree that Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who decided that jail was better than doing her job, is misguided and receiving terrible advice?

Can we all agree that the GOP candidates who have come to her defense have proven, once again, that they are ill equipped to lead the country?

Kim Davis - NYT photo

Can we all agree that the continuing rash of baseball fans injured and dying at baseball games must lead to more protective barriers and higher railings?

Can we all agree that new figures showing smoking in the US is at its lowest level ever, probably means tobacco companies are just more focused on countries where it’s easier to hawk their products?

Can we all agree that Pope Francis’ decision to welcome women who repent after having abortions, back into the Catholic church is a remarkable and welcome departure from past papal announcements?

Can we all agree that Roger Goodell totally mishandled the Tom Brady, Deflategate episode? (As a life-long Patriots fan, I feel it would be cruel to say any more.) But it may lead to major changes.

Can we all agree that the refugee crises in Europe was born out of the same ill-conceived agreement that created the EU?

Can we all agree that, as some commentators are saying, Europe has now found their own ‘Donald Trump’ in Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban?

Can we all agree that the stock market has officially entered the realm of irrational depression when 173,000 jobs are added and they worry about something (a rate increase) that they know has been coming for months? (I repeat, the stock market is not the economy.)

Can we all agree that renaming Mt. Mckinley to Denali – something even GOP senators in Alaska wanted –  makes sense to everyone except the Ohio Congressional delegation? I’m sure taking 1o feet off the elevation was a bit of a disappointment to Denali supporters.

Can we all agree that the President’s trip to Alaska to boost his environmental street cred,  seems a bit ill timed, coming just months after he approved oil drilling in the Arctic Circle?

Can we all agree that any 62-year-old who can survive 9 days lost in the Sierra’s – with a broken leg – deserves some kind of award from the AARP?

Can we all agree that Sony Pictures’ decision to alter the script of a movie about concussions to avoid angering the NFL is just one more black eye for a company already having a very bad decade?

Can we all agree that Hillary Clinton may be the luckiest Democratic candidate in 50 years as her favorability ratings drop while the GOP continues to self-destruct?

Can we all agree that while Mr. Trump will be the main event the September 16th GOP debate, Carley Fiorina will be a great undercard?

Can we all agree that the GOP establishment and Jeb Bush have finally woken up to the fact that they need to do something to stop The Donald? If not, he could set the party back about 150 years.

Can we all agree that we have no idea what’s going through the minds of Chinese leaders who stage a military parade as a TV event, while announcing a cut of 300,000 troops, and send a ships to the Aleutian islands while an America president is touring Alaska?

Can we all agree that while the eventual fate of the Iran nuclear deal has been decided, there will be plenty of political maneuvering for the next few weeks while Congress debates the treaty?

Can we all agree that the Trump loyalty pledge to the GOP party is not worth the paper it’s printed on?

And finally, can we all agree that California’s decision to limit the use of solitary confinement should have happened long before some inmates spent 30 years inside 8×10 foot rooms?
