CWAA: Can We All Agree™ – 6/10/17 edition

June 10, 2017

Can we all agree, if Donald Trump testifies under oath, perjury charges and then impeachment are sure to follow?

Can we all agree, maybe  Mr. Trump is right about Mr. Comey – if there’s one thing Mr. Trump knows, it’s how to lie?

Can we all agree Speaker Paul Ryan should be embarrassed by his suggestion that Mr. Trump can be forgiven, because he’s “unfamiliar with political protocol?

Just two guys,Barack and Justin, having a night out in Montreal.

Just two guys, Barack and Justin, having a night out in Montreal.

Can we all agree the talk about obstruction of justice is irrelevant in the impeachment debate, because impeachment has nothing to do with legality, it’s all political?

Can we all agree, the Senate and Mitch McConnell, take a back seat to no one in the chutzpah department, by passing healthcare reform, while most of the nation was watching James Comey testify?

Can we all agree, Theresa May’s loss in the British election really makes you wonder if this was the real point to the ISIS attacks in London and Manchester?

Can we all agree Montana should be very proud that they will soon have a politician with an assault conviction representing them in Congress?

Can we all agree we should learn a lesson from the Mayor of London who simply ignored Mr. Trump’s ridiculous tweets?

Can we all agree the best story of the week is the dinner between President Obama and Canadian Premier Justin Trudeau – just two guys having a night out?

Can we all agree the funniest story of the week was the North Koreans  blasting Mr. Trump as an egomaniac?

Can we all agree, the more South Korea tries to placate their neighbor to the north the more bellicose North Korea becomes?

Can we all agree when the President says one thing and the Secretary of State says another, one of them will be ignored, and it probably won’t be the President?

Can we all agree the EPA administrator needs to check his facts on coal jobs created over the last few months?

Can we all agree the House of Representatives should really stop wasting it’s time on legislation that has no chance of passage in the Senate?

Can we all agree as the administration’s poll numbers continue to deteriorate, it should be only a matter of time before the GOP abandons the Trump ship of state? But it doesn’t look that way.

Can we all agree, Mr. Trump’s infrastructure plan, announced this week, is little more than a reward for contractors who supported him?

Can we all agree, most Americans doubt that Mr. Trump is really the right person to undo the political crises with Qatar that he may have created?

Can we all agree, after this week’s exchange between Mr. Comey and Mr. Trump, it’s hard to imagine that anyone would want to lead the FBI?

Can we all agree most Americans had little reaction to the ISIS attack on Iran, because they, unfortunately, agree with Mr. Trump’s tweet?

Can we all agree The Chinese had it right this week when they welcomed California Governor Jerry Brown and ignored Energy Secretary Rick Perry?

Can we all agree, at least Mr. Trump’s mention of Pittsburgh, PA, gave the city a chance to show the world how much it has changed since its days as a steel town?

Can we all agree, Attorney General Jeff Sessions’s offer to resign, was almost a dream come true for progressives? Which is probably the reason the offer wasn’t accepted.

Can we all agree Uber’s move to fire 20 employees over sexual harassment claims really makes you wonder why anyone would want to work there? Sort of like the White House.

Can we all agree Harvard University’s move to revoke acceptance to students, over their social media activity, is an ominous warning to the millions of immature high schoolers who don’t realize the internet is forever?

Can we all agree the Democratic race for President might make the GOP’s 20-candidate field in 2016 look very small?

Can we all agree the arrest of a private contractor for leaking sensitive documents, could slow the leaks, as sources worry whether journalists will protect their identity?

Can we all agree Republicans support for the administration’s plan to cut 30,000 employees by creating a private corporation, is surprising since it is essentially unraveling the policies of the GOP’s favorite leader, Ronald Reagan?

Can we all agree there might be a glimmer of hope for the GOP, given what’s happening in Kansas?

Can we all agree Megyn Kelly’s interview with Vladimir Putin, just gave him another forum to lie to the world?

and finally:

We should all take a break and head out to see Wonder Woman this weekend.

CWAA: Can We All Agree – 1/28/17 edition

January 28, 2017

Can we all agree: Happy 99th birthday to my Aunt Sylvia.

Can we all agree, with one stroke of the pen Donald Trump’s has made a mockery of both the Statue of Liberty and the constitutional guarantee of freedom of religion? It didn’t take long for someone to challenge the new rule.

Can we all agree the Republican party may  be just as appalled at Donald Trump as the rest of us, but they have no idea what to do about it?

Can we all agree, watching Mr. Trump’s press conference with British leader Theresa May did nothing to bolster our confidence that he has a clue about international relations, beyond his own personal businesses?

Can we all agree, the GOP seems to have a sudden case of budget amnesia about the $10 trillion budget deficit they are about to create?

Can we all agree the first lawsuit against the Trump administration, is just the first attempt to make his tax returns public, and may be the first step toward impeachment? Expect many more.

Can we all agree the signs held by protestors at the Women’s March last weekend may have been the best part of the event?

Can we all agree the fact that the protest so enraged the President that he continues to lie about the size of the crowd, just makes it more satisfying?

Can we all agree the women’s march was the most impressive protest we’ve seen since the 60’s?

Can we all agree, it will be tough to maintain the movement’s momentum since there is no real leader, but as long as Mr. Trump continues to alienate the majority that opposed his election,  it will have legs, as they say.

Can we all agree California Governor Jerry Brown will not be the last public official to oppose Mr. Trump on climate change and sanctuary cities.

Can we all agree the idea of building a wall on the Mexican border was great for the campaign trail but it has nothing to do with border security.

Can we all agree putting pressure on department heads and forcing resignations is not the best way to run the government?

Can we all agree Mr. Trump’s open lies are just one more symptom of his personality disorder?

Can we all agree the Mexican President was right to cancel his visit to the US?

Can we all agree it’s tough to have a war with the media if they don’t fight back? But I doubt they will just ‘shut up.’

Can we all agree that backing torture as an interrogation technique puts our country in the same classification as the dictators and despots we have fought for decades?

Can we all agree the Dutch takedown of Mr. Trump is among the funniest to pop up on the internet?

Can we all agree, no-one is surprised James Comey will be retained as FBI chief, now that he’s a trusted campaign aide?

Can we all agree, the thought of an American president sending troops to a major city, reminds us of the desegregation era we all thought had ended?

Can we all agree, the President’s preoccupation with non-existent voter fraud just undermines our Democracy?

Can we all agree, attempts to gag every federal employee will not be successful and this administration will face withering internal criticism from leaks? The fact that the employees will have the First Amendment on their side will make it tougher for Mr. Trump to defend his position.

Can we all agree the Keystone Pipeline is not the path to energy independence?

Can we all agree, it will be interesting to see which Democrat calls Mr. Trump a liar as he is addressing them in February?

Can we all agree, the British parliament, should admit they have made a mistake and refuse to approve whatever Brexit plan Theresa May submits to them?

Can we all agree Mr. Trump obviously gave Israel at least tacit approval to expand their West Bank settlements?

Can we all agree Mr. Trump doesn’t seem to realize that the Holocaust Memorial is meant to honor the millions of Jews exterminated by the Nazis?

Can we all agree there is no doubt Mr. Trump has no idea what abandoning the TPP will do to relations in the Far East?

Can we all agree most other politicians would have offered at least some kind words of support for tornado victims, but apparently Mr. Trump, didn’t notice the event?

Can we all agree Mr. Trump must be happy Alec Baldwin gave him a week off from SNL?

Can we all agree, it’s a bit late for the New York Times to decide they’ve been too leniet with their coverage of Mr. Trump?

Can we all agree that Syria is now just a Russian outpost in the Middle East?

Can we all agree it may not be too long before our Congress starts to look like the one in Turkey?

Can we all agree, rumors that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is contemplating a political career is just one more example of the strange, strange world created by Mr. Trump?

And this week’s good read involves a Trump supporter and a $450 tip.

and finally – a farewell to Mary Tyler Moore, who was so much more than just another TV star.

CWAA: Can We All Agree – 12/17/16 edition

December 17, 2016

Can we all agree anyone who has to tell you he is smart, probably is not?

Can we all agree, just by holding a press conference President Obama showed up Donald Trump, who has not held an organized press conference since July?

President Obama at his final press conference of 2016 (NYT Photo)

President Obama at his final press conference of 2016 (NYT Photo)

Can we all agree it can’t be a coincidence the Presidential press conference was held on the same day Mr. Trump promised he would detail his plans to clarify his business dealings while in office? Did Mr. Trump think we would forget?

Can we all agree Mr. Obama’s ‘measured but firm’ response to the Russian’s hack of the election process is far better than Mr. Trump’s false tweets attacking the President?

Can we all agree Attorney General Loretta Lynch’s speech on race relations should be required reading?

Can we all agree, it’s about time Hillary Clinton rejoined the debate?

Can we all agree it’s telling that James Comey’s FBI took months to come to the same conclusion the CIA did, about Russia’s involvement in our electoral process?

Can we all agree China’s capture of a Navy drone cannot be a coincidence after Mr. Trump’s ill timed communication with the president of Taiwan?

Can we all agree it’s also possible the Chinese are just trying to divert attention from new reports that they have installed weapons on the artificial islands they created in the South China Sea?

Can we all agree the GOP establishment must really want Rex Tillerson to be Secretary of State, since they are pulling out all the stops to convince key senators that his clear conflict of interest will not sway his judgement?

Can we all agree, new rumors that it may take Britain 10 years to negotiate an exit from the European Union make a mockery of the whole process?

Can we all agree the British kerfuffle over Theresa May’s wardrobe would be funny, if it were not based on sexism?

Can we all agree that Ivanka Trump as first lady seems to be a foregone conclusion, although it’s hard to understand why she is sitting in meetings with her father  – unless she will have a voice in policy?

Can we all agree it’s remarkable that Mr. Trump’s security advisor, who has released classified information will be allowed to serve in the government, while Mrs. Clinton who has never released government secrets, will not?

Can we all agree it make no difference what Mr. Trump tells the people who are summoned to Trump Tower to pay homage to him? His overall policy will be made by the  people he is appointing to key positions – like the ambassador to Israel or the oil and gas company interests who will have unequalled influence over the next four years?

Can we all agree the irony of Rick Perry heading the Department of Energy, is just too obvious?

Can we all agree, the thought of the President-elect facing a deposition in a court case, just two weeks before his inauguration is a clear embarrassment to the office and every citizen?

Can we all agree that Mr. Trump seems to realize he went too far in trying to  argue with the CIA over Russian interference in the election?

Can we all agree, it was a surprise to hear the Senate Majority leader break with Trump and agree to hold hearings on the Russian interference in our election?

Can we all agree it’s nice to see the Democrats are planning to use the same strategy to slow drown Mr. Trump, as the GOP has used to prevent Mr. Obama’s policies  – lawsuits?

Can we all agree it is tragic that scientists feel the need to copy all their research and statistics to protect them from the incoming administration?

Can we all agree that we never thought divide and conquer would apply to the United States on so many levels?

Can we all agree California’s Governor has the right idea about resistance to the Trump administration’s climate change agenda?

Can we all agree the Minnesota football team’s threat to boycott a bowl game over sexual assault charges against teammates, makes you think twice about what’s happening on college  campuses?

Can we all agree Mark Zuckerberg should be ashamed of his attitude toward fake news that influenced the election through Facebook? Especially now that he’s making it the responsibility of his users to stop it.

Can we all agree, speaking of fake news and college, it seems clear that if adults cannot figure out what’s fake, young people have no chance?

Can we all agree, it wasn’t that long ago that generic drug makers were supposed to be a force to keep drug prices low? Now they are being accused of price collusion to inflate prices.

Can we all agree the reaction of the North Carolina legislature and sitting governor are  wrong on so many levels, it’s hard to believe they are not taking place in some third world country?

Map of Syria, confirms that the fighting will not end even after Aleppo falls.

Map of Syria, confirms that the fighting will not end even after Aleppo falls.

Can we all agree the Federal Reserve’s action to raise interest rates, just proves what a remarkable job President Obama has done over the last 8 years?

Can we all agree the world has failed the people of Aleppo?

Can we all agree Uber did itself no PR favors by ignoring state law and trying to start using driverless cars before getting the correct permits? Their contention that there will be someone sitting in the driver’s seat, does not hold water.

Can we all agree The EPA is trying to make fracking more difficult for the incoming administration by concluding that the process can damage drinking water?

Can we all agree, speaking of fracking, it seems there are some times when Mr. Tillerson actually opposes it – like when it gets too close to his home?

Can we all agree General Motors went way too far in advertising for neo-nazi’s to appear in their next commercial?

and finally:

This week’s  heartbreaking great read comes to us courtesy of Alex Trebeck and Jeopardy.

and RIP, TNT basketball reporter Craig Sager and former TV dad Alan Thicke.
